Recreation

At Highland Healthcare Center, each day is alive with a variety of social events and activities for residents to participate in. Under the leadership of a Therapeutic Recreation Director, our events calendar is full of meaningful programs.

Our Activity Department staff provides social, therapeutic and recreational entertainment programs. Residents enjoy the companionship of children, volunteers, pets and church family, to name a few. The residents also look forward to annual seasonal events like summer picnics, holiday activities and special events for Nursing Home Week. Local churches provide religious support via weekly services and individual visits with Holy Communion.

The Resident Council is very active at Highland Healthcare Center. It has elected officers, conducts monthly business meetings, makes recommendations for programs and operational improvements and conducts fundraisers for community charity programs. Our residents continue to demonstrate that they have a lot to offer.

Volunteers also actively participate in life at Highland. The many, many hours that our Volunteers put in each month helps our Activity Staff to provide even more fun for the residents. Any talent is welcome at Highland Healthcare Center

Our Facility Pets

The Pet Therapy Program at Highland Healthcare Center has helped transform our home into a spontaneous, often unpredictable homey environment. The program has been a shinning example of how much life pets can bring into a facility.

The vision of this program is to provide the residents with something they can love and care for, to add meaning to their lives. The program provides companionship, love and lots of entertainment. Our pets have all been adopted from the local SPCA and the residents actively support the SPCA through special fundraisers throughout the year.

Visiting pets are welcome with proper health records on file in the Activity Office and must be on a leash at all times.
